Paul’s Tips for Business Pt. 4

For those of you who have been following along, I’ve been sharing some of the insights and tips that I’ve learned throughout my extensive tenure as a business owner in the automotive industry. Nothing can prepare you for a situation like being in the middle of it; the best teacher in life is experience. Without further ado, here’s the fourth installment in my blog series, Paul’s Tips for Business.

Balance your work life and your home life.

If you constantly try to give 100% to both work and your family all the time, you’re going to end up stretching yourself too thin and not being effective at either. While it’s far too easy to let work control your life, it’s also important that you take time for yourself and the people in your life who matter deeply. Find ways to make time for yourself, and stick to the boundaries you’ve created.

Learn what you know, what you don’t, and who knows the things you don’t.

Nobody has all the answers to all of the questions, and it’s pompous when people pretend like they do. The best course of action when it comes to having the answers is to know what questions you have the ability to answer, what questions you need assistance to answer, and where you can go to find the aforementioned answer. If you don’t have the solution but know who does, you can still help to fix the problem.

Take care of your body.

I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, that your body is a temple and you should treat it accordingly, but it’s something you need to take to heart. Before you can run a business, you need to be able to manage yourself, and the best way to do that is by taking care of yourself at a fundamental level. Eat right, exercise as much as you can, and care for your body so that you can focus your attention where it’s needed.

Never underestimate the power of networking.

There’s no better tool you have at your disposal as a businessman than the ability to network. Networking allows you to build an extensive web of connections and resources where you can turn for advice, information, current industry news, and even career opportunities. You can pool your knowledge and the information you gain from others to have a better, more holistic approach to business in general.
